CalNote - Privacy Policy

CalNote is built with your privacy in mind. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it. We keep things simple: we only collect what we need to make the app work.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and a unique user identifier via Firebase Authentication.
1.2 Food Log Data
The meal notes and descriptions you enter are stored in our database (Firebase Firestore) and used to provide nutritional analysis.
1.3 Device Identifier
We use your Firebase Installation ID - a randomly generated device identifier - to enforce the free trial limits. This is not linked to your name or personal identity.
1.4 Usage Data
We collect basic usage statistics (e.g. number of analyses performed) to operate the app and enforce subscription limits.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the CalNote service
- Analyze your food descriptions using AI (Google Gemini)
- Enforce free trial and subscription limits
- Improve app performance and reliability
- Respond to your support requests
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
CalNote uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
Your food log data may be sent to Google Gemini for analysis. We do not share your data with any other third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
4. Data Retention
- Your account and food log data is retained as long as your account is active.
- You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us (see Section 7).
- Upon account deletion, your data is removed from our systems within 30 days.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and Firebase security rules that restrict access to your data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
CalNote is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent at any time by discontinuing use of the app

8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes within the app and update the "Effective Date" above. Continued use of CalNote after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance.
